On November 25 local time, 24 pieces of port machinery equipment manufactured by Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Group (ZPMC) for the RSCT terminal at Egypt’s Sokhna Port were delivered at the user’s terminal. This provides core equipment support for Egypt’s first fully automated terminal, marking an upgrade in quality for port infrastructure cooperation between China and Egypt.

Mohamed Khalil, CEO of the Sokhna Port project, stated in his speech that the Egyptian Ministry of Transport and the Suez Canal Economic Zone are jointly promoting the upgrade of Sokhna Port to help it transform into a fully integrated regional logistics hub. In the future, Sokhna Port will continue to empower the enhancement of Egypt’s international logistics hub capabilities. He expressed anticipation for deepening multi-party cooperation to inject strong momentum into Egypt’s sustainable economic growth and investment attraction.

The delivered port machinery equipment includes 6 ship-to-shore (STS) cranes and 18 fully automated rubber-tired gantry (RTG) cranes, combining the advantages of high performance and intelligence. Among them, the STS cranes are equipped with anti-sway and anti-twist technologies, ensuring the stable operation of the spreader under various working conditions. The equipment is also配备有 a truck positioning system and a ship shape scanning system, which can effectively improve positioning efficiency and overall operational safety. The RTG cranes are配备有 a spreader detection system and a target detection system. Combined with new automated platform technology, these comprehensively enhance the efficiency and stability of the equipment’s automated operation. Furthermore, these RTG cranes also adopt a hybrid power supply solution using conductor rails配合 lithium batteries, achieving pollution-free, zero-emission green operation.

The Hutchison Ports Egypt RSCT project is Egypt’s first terminal to adopt fully automated technology. The terminal’s berth line is 2,600 meters long with a total area of 1.6 million square meters. Upon completion, it will become Egypt’s largest container terminal. Its designed annual handling capacity is 3.5 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), capable of accommodating ultra-large vessels up to 400 meters in length. As a key node connecting the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea, Sokhna Port will leverage the advantages of this delivered equipment to build a logistics corridor connecting Eastern and Western trade, strengthening Egypt’s position in the global supply chain. It is expected to create over 2,000 direct and indirect jobs and attract more international investment by improving port efficiency.

The successful delivery of this equipment is a vivid portrayal of the “going global” strategy of China’s equipment manufacturing industry, demonstrating the company’s commitment to supporting Egypt’s economic development with high-end equipment and contributing to China-Africa cooperation.
