Piraeus: Container handling with reduced rotations

A noticeable downturn is recorded in the movement of freight containers at Piers II and III of the port of Piraeus in 2025, according to recent data from COSCO Shipping Ports. More specifically, in October, 311,000 TEUs were handled, compared to 391,000 in the corresponding month of 2024, marking a 20.5% drop.

On a ten-month level, the total movement from January to October 2025 amounted to 3.344 million TEUs, down from 3.498 million in 2024, retreating by 4.4%. The picture remained negative in September as well, when Piraeus handled 318,000 TEUs, compared to 387,000 a year earlier (-17.9%).

At the same time, COSCO Shipping Ports recorded strong growth internationally. Across the group’s 37 terminal stations, handling in the nine months of 2025 amounted to 97 million TEUs, increased by 5.6% compared to the 91.7 million TEUs in 2024. On an October level, global handling was strengthened by 9.5%, reaching 10.3 million TEUs.
