The Istanbul Police Department Narcotics Crime Investigation Branch Directorate and Intelligence Branch teams struck a blow to a drug network using the sea route in Istanbul. Upon obtaining information that cocaine would be shipped to Turkey by sea in a container from the port city of Guayaquil, Ecuador, a South American country, the Istanbul Narcotics Crime Investigation Branch and intelligence police placed the ship carrying the container under surveillance.
During the ongoing investigation into drug trafficking, the operation was launched the moment the container was unloaded at Ambarlı Port, located within the boundaries of Beylikdüzü district, the day before yesterday. Police teams who had taken precautions inside the port raided the identified container together with the Ministry of Trade Customs Protection teams. During searches conducted with a detector dog in the container where the cocaine was concealed, 175 kilograms and 120 grams of cocaine were seized. 3 people understood to be connected to the drugs were captured and taken into custody.
Following the completion of the investigation procedures for the crime of “TCK 188 (Manufacture and Trade of Narcotic or Stimulant Substances)” against 2 of the suspects captured in the customs area, they were released by the judicial authorities so that their files could be sent for supplementation.
It was learned that the other suspect would be referred to the judicial authorities after his procedures are completed.
