Mr. Marios Iliopoulos and SEAJETS were awarded by the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Mr. Yiannis Kefalogiannis for their significant overall contribution to this year’s firefighting operations and the decisive support of SEAJETS during the fires in Chios, where it provided two ships exclusively for the firefighting operations and two additional passing ships, which transported fire trucks and strong forces to the island.

Mr. Marios Iliopoulos, Head of Strategic Planning and Development of SEAJETS, in his brief speech, noted that greater effort is required from the state but also from all those who are practically interested. In this context, he announced SEAJETS’s intention to donate fire trucks to the state, characteristically stating:

You all know that a fire, when there is a small focus, in the first minute is extinguished with a bucket of water. If half an hour passes, it might need five fire trucks or seven fire trucks. To be fair, a lot has been done compared to the past. Very many areas have been cleared, the entire patrol system has changed, which is so important for prevention and so important for surveillance.

SEAJETS is next to all the islands – about 50 islands – whether we offer passenger services or not. We considered it our great responsibility to do this and we will always be by your side.

Mr. Minister, I declare, in light of today’s presentation and ceremony, that SEAJETS will help and strengthen your own forces, by also donating fire trucks.

We must all push, each from their own position and each in their own way, for an even greater effort, for training, for prevention, for firefighting procedures, because we cannot every summer test the resilience of the country and the resilience of the system…

The event took place at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center and its theme was the presentation of the works of the AEGIS program, which is funded by the Recovery and Resilience Fund, as well as the Account of the 2025 Firefighting Season.
