IMO: Record votes for Greece at the Council

Must read

Our country ranked 4th internationally, just two votes below first place, confirming the central role of Greek shipping on the global stage.

As a newly elected member of the Council for the next biennium, Greece, leveraging the accumulated know-how stemming from its centuries-old maritime tradition, will continue to actively support the IMO’s goals for a modern and safe international shipping industry, with realistic and applicable rules that do not undermine the viability of international shipping and the competitiveness of the sector. Thus, shipping will continue to operate for the benefit of the global economy and the citizens of the entire planet.

In the IMO vote, China and Italy received 155 votes each, South Korea 154, while Greece tied with the United Kingdom at 153 votes, followed by Japan, Panama, USA, Norway, and Liberia.
