The port of Vigo will close 2025 with a record in cruise traffic: 120 calls and more than 310,000 passengers, significantly surpassing the historic mark achieved in 2011 —118 calls and 253,000 passengers— and consolidating itself as one of the reference destinations in the northwestern peninsula.

With the call of the Marella Discovery, which is already docked at the Transatlantic quay of the port of Vigo, where all the details are being finalized for the boarding operation that will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, December 2nd, the Vigo port will already surpass the barrier of 300,000 cruise passengers so far this year.

After this call, the port of Vigo will receive five other cruise visits before the end of 2025, including a double call on the 24th with the Ambition and the Arcadia. Forecasts for 2026 point to maintaining a level of activity similar to this record year.

Vigo recovers its role as a homeport with the boarding of 1,763 passengers from the Marella Discovery, a milestone not seen since 2009

In the opinion of Carlos Botana, this boarding consolidates Vigo “as a reference cruise destination in the northwestern peninsula” and underscores the port’s strategy to “boost maritime tourism.”

In this context of growth, Vigo recovers its role as a cruise homeport with the boarding of the 1,763 British passengers who will board the Marella Discovery tomorrow. The operation will last until 10:00 PM, at which time the ship will set sail for the Caribbean to begin a 14-night itinerary. This is a milestone that the Vigo port had not experienced since 2009, when it last embarked passengers on a large scale with the MSC Splendida.
