Skagen Harbor introduces mobile environmental stations

Skagen Harbor has introduced a new waste sorting system targeted at the ships calling at the port. Central to the effort are a number of mobile environmental stations, which can be placed directly at the quay close to the individual ship.

The mobile units contain six separate fractions and can be adapted to the needs at the individual quay. The purpose is to make waste handling faster and more efficient and to ensure correct sorting without unnecessary internal transport within the port area. All waste from the stations is sent on for recycling, according to a press release from the port.

The initiative is part of the port’s overall sustainability strategy focusing on the areas where the port itself can reduce environmental impact. At the same time, the port has invested in a new electric truck with a crane, which replaces a diesel-powered model and contributes to lower CO2 emissions in daily operations.

The project has received EU support through the Interreg North Sea project REDII Ports.
