The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk freight index, which monitors rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, climbed about 3.7% to the highest since early December 2025 at 2,832 points on Tuesday, buoyed by the larger vessel segments.
The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes including iron ore and coal, jumped 5.8% to a five-month peak of 4,703 points; and the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, rose 2.6% to 2,054 points.
On the other hand, the supramax index decreased by 0.8% to 1,508 points.
