Recently, the new construction project for an annual output of 25 ten-thousand-ton standard vessels by Hubei Kunpeng Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. was officially filed with the Yidu City Development and Reform Department in Yichang City.

The project has a total investment of 2.2 billion yuan and is located in the Yidu Green Intelligent Ship Industrial Park in Yichang. It is planned to commence construction in May 2026. The project covers a total area of approximately 600 mu, with a total building area of about 850,000 square meters. It plans to build 8 production lines, covering stockyards, pretreatment, laser CNC cutting, small block assembly, medium block assembly, pipe prefabrication, flat panel sections, and final assembly. Production equipment such as gantry cranes, pretreatment equipment, and laser cutters will be procured.

Once completed, the project will achieve an annual shipbuilding capacity of 250,000 deadweight tons, approximately 25 ten-thousand-ton standard vessels.

It is understood that Hubei Kunpeng Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. was established on January 12, 2026. It is a private enterprise registered at No. 379 Binjiang Road, Lucheng, Yidu City, Yichang City, with a registered capital of 40 million yuan. It is a modern enterprise specializing in ship manufacturing, repair, design, and the research, development, and production of marine supporting equipment. Its business scope covers multiple fields including metal ship manufacturing, ship sales, metal structure manufacturing, and import and export of goods.

The Yidu Green Intelligent Ship Industrial Park, where Kunpeng Shipbuilding has chosen to locate this project, is one of the core projects for Yichang City to implement the national “dual carbon” strategy and the “Electrify the Yangtze River” initiative, helping the shipbuilding industry transition from traditional to green and from manufacturing to intelligent manufacturing. The industrial park has a total investment of 5 billion yuan, covers an area of 1,588 mu, and is equipped with internationally advanced intelligent equipment and a domestically pioneered reverse-launch slipway launching system. It opened last year.

Since its planning and construction, the Yidu Green Intelligent Ship Industrial Park has attracted multiple enterprises in the industrial chain, including the Industry Investment Group and Damen Shipyards. After all projects reach full production capacity, the entire industrial park is expected to achieve an annual output value of 10 billion yuan. In February 2025, as Phase I of the project, the new base primarily responsible for the overall relocation of Yichang Damen Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. was completed within 18 months, setting a record for the construction speed of similar projects along the Yangtze River. In June of the same year, Yichang Damen Shipbuilding, with an investment of 2.3 billion yuan, completed its relocation and officially commenced production. Key indicators such as indoor working area and lifting capacity achieved a leapfrog improvement, and in October, it successfully launched its first export ocean-going cargo ship. Currently, the enterprise’s overall production capacity has doubled compared to its original scale. With the successful settlement and production of Damen Shipbuilding, the agglomeration effect of the industrial chain quickly became apparent. In September 2025, the ship manufacturing base project of Hubei Haike Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. was officially signed and settled.

Currently, the Yidu Green Intelligent Ship Industrial Park is steadily advancing construction according to the plan. It is expected that by 2030, the total area of the park will reach 3,252 mu, with a total industrial output value of 20 billion yuan, forming a ten-billion-yuan industrial chain; by 2035, the total area of the park will reach 5,989 mu, with a total industrial output value of 30 billion yuan, establishing a world-class green intelligent ship manufacturing hub.
