With the implementation of the new zero-tariff policy for African countries that maintain diplomatic relations with China, a growing wave of African specialty products has arrived in Chinese markets, with the completion of this year’s May Day holidays, launching new opportunities for the dynamic development of bilateral trade.
Just after midnight on May 1st, customs officials in the city of Shenzhen in Guangdong province in southern China rapidly completed the import process for 24 tons of apples from South Africa.
This was the first import shipment under the implementation of an expanded zero-tariff policy for all 53 African countries with which China maintains diplomatic relations.
The latest expanded policy to increase African exports to the Chinese market had zeroed tariffs at a rate of 100% for imports from 33 least developed countries of Africa (LDCs) that maintain diplomatic relations with China as of December 1st, 2024.
It is additionally noted that China has been Africa’s largest trading partner for 17 consecutive years.
