Ørsted and PGE have initiated offshore construction of the Baltic 2 offshore windfarm in the Polish sector of the Baltic
The first foundations have been installed, with installation of the monopiles carried out by contractor Van Oord.
A total of 111 monopiles will be installed, 107 as foundations for the wind turbines and four for the offshore substations for the windfarm. The installation process will continue until Q4 2026.
The 1.5-GW windfarm will use 107 Siemens Gamesa 14-222 wind turbines, each of 14 MW, which will be installed by Cadeler and Fred Olsen Windcarrier. Port of Gdansk will be used for storage, pre-assembly, and offshore installation of wind turbine components.
Baltica 2 will be built, owned and operated by a 50/50 partnership between Ørsted and Poland’s largest energy company, PGE Polska Grupa. The windfarm, which will be located approximately 40 km off the Polish coast near Ustka, is expected to be fully commissioned in 2027.
Baltica 2 has a 25-year inflation-protected contract for difference (CfD) in place with the Polish state. The windfarm has obtained all permits and has signed a grid connection contract with the Polish transmission system operator, PSE.
PGE chief executive Dariusz Lubera described the commencement of construction as a breakthrough moment, not only for the PGE Group but also for the entire Polish energy sector.
