Piombino has officially kicked off its summer cruise season with the Sirena‘s maiden call, a ship operated by the American luxury cruise line Oceania Cruises.

The vessel, which arrived at the port of Piombino for the first time this morning, brought 634 passengers to the town. Many opted for organized excursions, whilst others made their way to the historic centre using the shuttle service provided by the local council and operated by Parchi Val di Cornia.

Tuscany Terminal managed pier-side hospitality operations.

To mark the occasion, the traditional exchange of crests ceremony took place on board, attended by the Captain, Francesca Venditto (Agenzia Freschi Alessandro & C.), and Port Network Authority representatives, Francesca Morucci and Matteo Donati.

The Sirena is 181 metres long, 25.5 metres wide and has a gross tonnage of 30,277 tonnes. It was built in 1999 at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire.

The ship, which can carry over a thousand passengers, in addition to the 400 crew members, will set sail again for Civitavecchia this evening.
