BAR Technologies has delivered the LR2 tanker Monza to UK-based Union Maritime, making it the third vessel in the owner’s newbuilding programme to adopt wind-assisted propulsion, according to BAR Technologies.
The Yangzijiang Shipbuilding-built tanker is fitted with two 37.5-metre WindWings developed by BAR Technologies and manufactured by CMET.
Monza is part of Union Maritime’s dual-fuel LR2 tanker series combining LNG propulsion with WindWings sail technology.
The delivery follows Spa, an earlier vessel in the programme and the first dual-fuel LR2 tanker fitted with two 37.5-metre WindWings.
BAR Technologies is a Portsmouth-based marine engineering and technology company focused on simulation-led vessel design, high-performance engineering and emissions-reduction technologies for commercial shipping.
Union Maritime is a UK-based tanker owner and operator with a fleet spanning Intermediate to /LR2 tankers. The company says it owns and charters more than 70 vessels and has offices across three continents.
