China maintained its leadership in the shipbuilding industry during the month of April of the current year. This figure is accompanied by a year-on-year growth in orders of 21% worldwide.

According to Clarkson, the shipyards of the Asian giant reached agreements for the construction of 156 vessels, representing 67% of the market share. Meanwhile, South Korean builders secured agreements for 33 ships, accounting for 16% of the total.

The Chinese industry prevails in all categories, whether in monthly orders, annual orders, or existing order backlog. Furthermore, it maintains its requests in orders for container ships, oil tankers, bulk carriers, and more gradually in gas carriers.

In this regard, the subsidiary of the Korean company, Hyundai Heavy Industries, HD Korea Shipbuilding, stated that “we will continue to secure orders for high value-added vessels and will adopt a different strategy for capturing orders than that of Chinese shipyards (which focus mainly on oil tankers and bulk carriers) to avoid direct competition with them”, the company assured after being consulted.
