The Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority (AdSP) reported that it has completed georadar and mobile mapping studies with the aim of creating digital twins. The initiative would be carried out in the Italian ports of Genoa and Savona-Vado.
According to the AdSP on its website, “this initiative is part of the broader digitalization effort being carried out by the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority and will enable the development of a comprehensive and interoperable database to support the planning, design and management of port infrastructure”.
Furthermore, it was added that “the campaign covered a total of approximately 75,000 square meters and was carried out over three months. The ground-penetrating radar studies explored the subsoil to a depth of three meters, mapping the electrical networks, utilities and underground infrastructure beneath the port roads”.
“Simultaneously, buildings, roads and adjacent structures were inspected using mobile mapping technology with a lidar system, capable of acquiring high-precision three-dimensional data and providing a detailed digital representation of the areas”, it was added in the circular.
Finally, it was noted that “the digital twin will ensure integration with other information systems already in use and will allow, during the design phase, the early identification of any interference between the new works and the existing infrastructure, improving the operational efficiency of the works and reducing time and critical issues in the execution of the project”.
