DEME Names Next-Generation Jack-Up Vessel Norse Energi

DEME held the official naming ceremony of its new jack-up offshore transport and installation vessel, Norse Energi, at its base in Vlissingen, the Netherlands. This event follows the recent naming of its sister vessel, Norse Wind, in Oslo and marks an important milestone in a trajectory that brings together a powerful next-generation duo, significantly strengthening DEME’s offshore transport and installation fleet.

The Norse Energi was built and delivered by CIMC Raffles, a subsidiary of CIMC Group. The vessel’s all-DC power supply design, based on differences in equipment specifications, reduces the number of cables required, lightens equipment weight, occupies less space, and effectively improves compatibility. This effectively reduces costs and energy consumption, improves efficiency, and is also environmentally friendly.

As a key project for the development of clean energy in Europe, the Norse Energi project series of vessels are equipped with the DP2 system, which has powerful deck loading and hoisting capabilities. It can be used for the transportation and installation of various types of wind turbines at the same time, and can meet the needs of continental shelf operations in the harsh conditions of the North Sea.

Compared to other wind turbine installation vessels, the Norse Energi project is equipped with a 3,200-ton main crane and the latest battery hybrid drive system technology. The battery system can also fully cover the functions of a main unit, reducing the carbon emissions required for each megawatt of installation by more than 70%.

Norse Energi will soon begin operations in the Baltic Sea and the North Sea. Among its first projects are the Windanker offshore wind farm for Iberdrola in the German Baltic Sea, scheduled to start in June 2026, followed by Ørsted’s Hornsea 3 project in the United Kingdom, commencing in the third quarter of 2026.

The vessel was officially named by Mrs. Fabienne Ackermans, a descendant of the founding family of DEME.

Together, Norse Energi and Norse Wind represent a major step forward with regard to DEME’s offshore transportation and installation capabilities. Purpose-built to transport and install the next generation of wind turbines and XXL monopiles in water depths of up to 70 meters, the vessels will play a key role in supporting the continued global expansion of offshore wind. Equipped with a powerful 3,200-ton crane and optimized for maximum operational efficiency, both vessels have been designed to handle multiple high-capacity turbines per trip, enabling faster and more efficient project execution while reducing installation timelines. The vessels’ advanced designs include a hybrid power plant and a 4.2 MWh battery system, which absorb energy peaks and reduce the load on diesel engines, resulting in improved fuel efficiency and lower emissions.
