Shenzhen Airport announced on the 12th that the Shenzhen-Hangzhou Off-site Cargo Station was officially inaugurated and put into operation. This is an innovative measure by Shenzhen Airport and Hangzhou Airport to achieve regional complementarity, resource sharing, and model optimization through mutual establishment of off-site cargo stations, jointly building an efficient and smooth air logistics corridor, which will inject new momentum into the coordinated development of air logistics between the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Yangtze River Delta region.

Currently, there are 165 passenger flights and 12 all-cargo flights operating weekly between Shenzhen and Hangzhou, with air transport time for goods between the two cities compressed to within 2 hours. As of April this year, Shenzhen Airport’s domestic cargo terminal has handled over 15,000 tons of cargo traveling between Shenzhen and Hangzhou, a year-on-year increase of 8.47%, reflecting the vast potential for logistics collaboration between the two cities.

In terms of industrial structure and logistics demand, Shenzhen Airport leverages the advantages of the advanced manufacturing industry and cross-border e-commerce sector in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, with strong demand for transporting electronic products, precision instruments, and e-commerce parcels, leading the nation in domestic cargo scale. Hangzhou Airport, based on the digital economy highland of the Yangtze River Delta, excels in regional distribution and import distribution functions for biomedicine, cold chain fresh products, and high-end consumer goods.

The establishment of the Shenzhen-Hangzhou Off-site Cargo Station achieves deep synergy between the two parties in domestic route networks, cargo terminal resources, cargo consolidation and transshipment, and service standards, opening up the entire cross-regional logistics chain, compressing transit time, and making the “air relay” of goods more diverse, efficient, and widely covered. Relying on the air logistics corridor that “connects the Yangtze River Delta in the east and the Pearl River Delta in the south,” cross-border e-commerce products from East and South China can leverage the abundant scheduled capacity of Shenzhen and Hangzhou to efficiently transition from domestic to international routes, reaching the global market.

It is understood that Shenzhen Airport has previously established off-site cargo stations with Urumqi Airport, Xi’an Airport, and Lanzhou Airport.

A relevant person in charge of Shenzhen Airport stated that taking this as an opportunity, relying on the complementary advantages of both parties in the cargo route network, they will continue to promote deep integration in port functions, industrial resources, and cargo services, further improve the national air logistics network layout, smooth the north-south air logistics corridor, enhance the resilience of regional industrial and supply chains, support the development of key industries such as high-end manufacturing, biomedicine, cross-border e-commerce, and cold chain fresh products, and promote the organic connection between the two national strategies of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area construction and the Yangtze River Delta integration at the air logistics level.
