The Federal Port Authority – Codeba presented to authorities and representatives of truck drivers, during a meeting held at the company’s headquarters in Salvador, solutions to alleviate truck traffic on the access roads to the ports.

The objective of the meeting was to inform the sector about the measures adopted by the institution to increase the safety of professionals and to develop a proposal that reduces the impacts on traffic, resulting from the increase in the volume of cargo arriving at and leaving the public maritime terminals of Bahia.

At the beginning of the meeting, the president of Codeba, Antonio Gobbo, addressed the issues raised by the truck drivers and explained to those present the legal limitations imposed by the Ministry of Labor and Employment, the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) and the Federal Revenue Service, which prevent the use of the internal area of the ports as parking, reinforcing the availability of parking spaces and the infrastructure of the Codeba Access Yard for rotational use by professionals.

Likewise, the head of the entity explained the jurisdictional limitations that prevent a more effective action by the Company regarding the viaduct, the tunnel and the Baía de Todos-Os-Santos Highway.

“We only have authority to manage and operate traffic once the vehicle enters the first gate of the port. We have already warned operators about releasing vehicles in a volume that exceeds their capacity,” added Gobbo.

During the meeting, representatives of the Port Authority also addressed the structural limitations of the Vía Expressa that prevent the expansion of access roads, as well as the operational measures adopted by the Company to reduce truck waiting times at the Port of Salvador, such as pre-scheduling and accreditation of companies to manage classification zones, with adequate infrastructure to provide greater comfort to drivers.

“In this way, the driver leaves on time, knowing that he will arrive on time and enter without problems, without having to wait in front of a truck that is not scheduled,” explained Antonio Gobbo.
