As he made clear, Tehran will play a decisive role in the management of the planet’s most important energy artery.

The president of the Iranian parliament and head of the negotiating team that is in talks with the United States for the definitive end of the war in the Middle East reiterated yesterday Monday that the situation in the Strait of Hormuz has changed permanently.

“The whole world must know that the management of the Strait of Hormuz will never be what it was before the war,” he stated, according to the Iranian state news agency IRNA.

Ghalibaf hastened to clarify that Tehran does not intend to violate international law or the rules of navigation, making clear, however, that Iran considers that it will now have an enhanced role in the control of the strategic sea passage.

“Of course, international rules will be respected, but Iran will manage the Strait of Hormuz,” he stressed.

His statements acquire particular weight as they are made while negotiations continue between Tehran and Washington for the permanent establishment of the ceasefire and the formation of a new security framework in the region.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most important sea routes in the world, as a large part of global exports of oil and liquefied natural gas pass through it.

During the war, it was at the center of international concerns, as threats to restrict or halt navigation caused severe turbulence in energy markets and international shipping.

The new statements from the Iranian side indicate that, even if a definitive agreement is reached with the US, Tehran does not intend to return to the previous operational status of the strategic sea artery.
