The “Oil Companies International Marine Forum” (OCIMF) is getting a new managing director. Don Davis of Chevron is taking over the post from Karen Davis.

Davis is moving from Chevron to the OCIMF as part of a “secondment” and will take up the post on 1 July, as the oil industry organisation – which focuses on all maritime activities, from loading and unloading to onward transport and offshore development – has now announced. His predecessor, Davis, joined OCIMF in 2021.

This appointment marks an important milestone in OCIMF’s development, the statement said. Under Davis’s leadership, the organisation had recently adopted a new mission: “United in purpose to drive maritime safety in the energy sector”. This is intended to reflect its growing role in supporting safe and responsible maritime operations within an increasingly diverse energy landscape.

The Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF) is a voluntary association of oil companies. It focuses on preventing harm to people and the environment by promoting best practice in the design, construction and operation of tankers, inland waterway vessels and offshore vessels, as well as their interfaces with terminals. Its members include over 100 companies, amongst them the world’s largest oil and energy groups.

The new Managing Director joins OCIMF from Chevron Shipping Company, where he currently serves as General Manager for Global Marine Assurance. With more than three decades’ experience in the operation of tankers, inland waterway vessels, marine terminals and offshore vessels, he brings extensive expertise in the areas of maritime safety, operational quality assurance and leadership. He is also well known within OCIMF: over the past five years, he has represented Chevron on the ‘Publication & Advocacy Offshore Principal Committee’ – serving as its chair for the last four years – and currently acts as Chevron’s deputy representative on the OCIMF Executive Committee.

Lambros Klaudatos, Chair of OCIMF, said: “We are delighted to welcome Don to OCIMF. He brings an exceptional combination of operational expertise, strategic leadership and in-depth industry knowledge. Through his long-standing close collaboration with OCIMF, he has a deep understanding of our members, our mission and the challenges and opportunities facing the maritime industry.”

Lambros Klaudatos also paid tribute to Karen Davis for her contribution to the organisation: “She has led the organisation through a significant period of change, including the successful launch of SIRE 2.0 and the development of OCIMF’s new mission and expanded role in the energy sector. On behalf of the Board and the entire OCIMF community, I would like to thank her for her dedication, professionalism and significant contribution to both the organisation and the industry.”
