Braskem has started operations with the Blooming Future, a new LR1 tanker operated by Braskem Trading & Shipping, or BT&S. The vessel will be used mainly to transport naphtha, a key feedstock for the company’s petrochemical production.
Named during a ceremony in China, the Blooming Future was designed to operate with greater energy efficiency and lower carbon intensity. Braskem expects the vessel to cut CO₂ emissions by about 30% compared with ships currently operated by the company, equivalent to 6,500 tonnes per year.
“The Blooming Future will transport naphtha to support our industrial production, operating at optimized speed to reduce fuel consumption and emissions. The vessel was designed to meet the highest standards of safety, reliability and sustainability, showing how operational efficiency and lower-carbon maritime transport can advance together,” said Hardi Schuck, director of Braskem Trading & Shipping.
Classified as an IMO Type 3 vessel, a category used for ships that transport chemicals and petroleum products, the tanker is also equipped with engines prepared for biofuel use and systems designed to improve energy efficiency.
“Our new ship delivers excellent operational performance and is as wide as a six-lane highway, allowing it to carry cargo equivalent to 35 Olympic-size swimming pools,” Schuck said.
The start of operations with the Blooming Future is part of Braskem Trading & Shipping’s expansion program, which calls for four LR1 tankers to be in operation by early 2027.
