A 3,600-person Dinner and a sea of “off-site” events filled the Genoa Shipping Week

Must read

With the conclusion of the 17th edition of the Shipbrokers & Shipagents Dinner organized by Assagenti, another edition of the Genoa Shipping Week comes to a close, which will be remembered above all for the quantity and quality of Italian and international shipping and transport professionals who, in recent days, have appeared in the Ligurian capital to participate in conferences, private appointments, and social evenings.

Meanwhile, the Dinner managed to break another record by attracting about 3,600 people to the Jean Nouvel pavilion of the Genoa Fair, a new record for this event which once again consolidated the role of the Superba as the Italian capital of the sea. Despite the inevitable traffic jams of cars and vehicles to access the Sea Fair, the internal logistics and entrance at the location withstood the impact well; the organization and setup satisfied the key players (primarily the maritime agencies and naval brokerage companies that hosted their clients) by guaranteeing both welcoming environments and an easy flow for those present, intent on shaking hands and toasting with their respective professional partners.

National and local sector institutions were present in full force, with the host, President Gianluca Croce, who deliberately chose to remain as low profile as possible to let the atmosphere and business networking do the talking. The Dinner was also the occasion to complete the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the Genoese Association of Maritime Agents and Brokers; an anniversary also celebrated with a giant cake prepared by the Pasticceri Fepag Fipe-Confcommercio Association and assembled on-site through an engaging cooking show by the Association’s pastry chefs. For the rest, the culinary and food and wine journey, organized and realized by Genova Gourmet, was the result of a project promoted by the Genoa Chamber of Commerce to enhance local excellence.

But if the Dinner represented the highlight event of the week, in the preceding 48 hours the city was the stage for a series of private ‘off-site’ events which saw the participation of many important names from national and international shipping, who preferred to attend meeting opportunities and receptions that were less crowded and more vertical compared to the grand finale at the Genoa Fair.

Notable, for example, was the gala evening organized by the Propeller Club – Port of Genoa at Villa Lo Zerbino, as well as the HB Shipping reception at the Yacht Club Italiano and the Premuda dinner at the Genoa Aquarium (the latter was probably one of the events, among those to which SHIPPING ITALY was invited, with the highest number of Italian and Monegasque shipowners present).

That same evening, BBC Chartering also welcomed its guests at the Cisterne del Ducale, as did Bravo Tankers, and OOCL chose Palazzo della Torre in Quarto to celebrate its first 20 years of direct presence with its own office in Italy.

In addition to the marathon of conference events and evening appointments set up during the week by Youngship Italia (16 nationalities of guests present, three different locations – Villa Ferrari, Ladidà, Terrazza Colombo – and 30 speakers on stage at the Porto Antico Congress Center for the international conference Shipcon25), on Thursday there was also space for corporate lunch events organized by Finsea together with HB Shipping at the Melia hotel, by Scolaro Shipbrokers which gathered the main representatives of the ferry and ro-ro world at Terrazza Colombo, and by Cambiaso Risso Marine which welcomed its guests for an aperitif at the Mattoni Rossi venue before proceeding with the evening at the Dinner. Banchero Costa, instead, guaranteed the after-party at the Estoril nightclub. Nolarma, finally, just as had happened in 2023, preferred to welcome its guests at a private event simultaneous with the Assagenti appointment at the Jean Nouvel pavilion. More than 24 hours a day would be needed during the Genoa Shipping Week to satisfy and coordinate everyone.
