Budd P&I have informed West of England Club that the
“awareness period” for Port Authority decree no. 99-318 for the port of
Abidjan. Côte d’Ivoire, will expire on December 31st 2022.
West informed members that the consequence of this was
that from January 1st 2023 vessels will be required to dispose of
all waste, waste oil and sludge onboard prior to departure. Costs for such
disposal will be for vessel’s account.
Failure to comply with the requirement would entail
sanctions and the possible exclusion from the port’s daily berth allocation
meeting.
Budd said that details regarding enforcement and the full
range of sanctions had not yet been circulated by the port authorities. The
situation is being monitored by Budd.
