Clarivette Díaz, new regional director for Latin America of Global Ports Holding, and Emilio Vázquez Villanueva, recently appointed general manager of Acapulco Cruise Port, participated in an event presenting the new brand identity of the Mexican terminal.
The inauguration takes place following the signing of a 24-year concession contract between GPH and Asipona Acapulco for the operation and development of Acapulco Cruise Port. This contract represents the first cruise port concession of the international company in Mexico and establishes a long-term framework to strengthen the city’s role in cruise itineraries along the Mexican Riviera and the West Coast of the Americas.
The event brought together representatives of the Government of the State of Guerrero, the Administration of the National Port System Acapulco (Asipona Acapulco), Global Ports Holding (GPH), Acapulco Cruise Port, key players in the tourism sector and members of the local community.
Covadonga Gómez Huerta, undersecretary of Tourism Services, speaking on behalf of Governor Evelyn Salgado Pineda, said that “Governor Salgado recognizes this project as a great opportunity to strengthen Guerrero’s tourism sector, attract more visitors and generate greater prosperity for families throughout the state. The presentation of the new image of the Acapulco Cruise Port represents much more than a rebranding; it marks the beginning of a new era for cruise tourism and an important step toward consolidating Acapulco’s position as one of Mexico’s leading destinations.”
“Global Ports Holding’s decision to invest in Acapulco sends a strong message to the international tourism industry. As the world’s largest cruise port management company, its commitment reflects confidence in the destination’s potential and demonstrates that Acapulco is ready to write a new and exciting chapter in its history,” added Gómez.
Rear Admiral (Ret.) Raymundo Sánchez López, general director of Asipona Acapulco, stated that “the new identity of Acapulco Cruise Port represents a new chapter for the Port of Acapulco and reflects the shared commitment between Asipona Acapulco and Global Ports Holding to drive a forward-looking project for our city. In this context, we welcome Maestro Emilio Vázquez Villanueva as general manager of Global Ports Holding in Acapulco, with whom we will continue working in close coordination to consolidate this important project.”
Mike Maura, Jr., regional director for the Americas of Global Ports Holding, expressed that “here we commemorate an important milestone in the valuable alliance between GPH, Asipona and the people of Acapulco. This delivery symbolizes the solid collaboration and partnership between Asipona and GPH, as well as our shared commitment to the cruise tourism sector. We are pleased to be here and we are excited about what the future holds for us.”
Under the concession contract, GPH will operate and progressively invest in a concession area of approximately 17,199 square meters.
The planned improvements will focus on modernizing the cruise terminal, optimizing passenger flow, improving operational efficiency and safety, modernizing the commercial and food and beverage offering, and elevating the overall guest experience for those arriving in Acapulco.
GPH will also collaborate with cruise lines, government partners, and local tourism stakeholders to develop new destination experiences and coastal concepts that celebrate Acapulco’s culture, gastronomy, heritage, and natural beauty, while creating meaningful opportunities for local businesses and communities.
In parallel, Asipona Acapulco is building a new 350-meter cruise pier, funded with public resources and scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2027. The new infrastructure is expected to strengthen the port’s capacity to receive larger modern cruise ships and support the long-term growth of the destination’s cruise tourism sector.
Clarivette Díaz, regional director for Latin America at Global Ports Holding, stated that “this new identity communicates our confidence in Acapulco and our ambition for the future of its cruise sector. Acapulco possesses an extraordinary tourism legacy, a rich maritime history, and a globally recognized cultural identity. Working closely with Asipona, the Government of Guerrero, our partner cruise lines, and the local community, we seek to enhance these strengths and create a modern, welcoming, and unmistakably Acapulcan port experience.”
The event also recognized the appointment of Emilio Vázquez Villanueva as general manager of Acapulco Cruise Port, who will lead GPH’s local team and work closely with Asipona Acapulco, government agencies, cruise lines, and community members to guide port operations and phased development.
The new logo is inspired by one of Acapulco’s most recognizable symbols, as its central image features the iconic cliff divers of La Quebrada, whose bravery, skill, and tradition have captivated visitors for generations, over the spectacular rock formations and waves that define Acapulco’s coastline, with the vibrant turquoise color reflecting the waters of the bay. Together, these elements create a distinctive identity that celebrates local heritage and expresses confidence in the future of its cruise tourism sector.
