The Genoese shipping company Ignazio Messina & C. has launched a further dedicated line for the maritime transport of containers between Italy and Libya. This is revealed by the latest weekly report from Dynaliners, which states that “Messina Line has started a service between Italy and Libya served by a single 700 TEU capacity container ship. With an approximate frequency of twice a month, it will call at the ports of Salerno, La Spezia, Genoa, Misurata, Tripoli, Misurata and again Salerno”.
Confirmation of this news comes from the company’s headquarters in the Ligurian capital, with some additional details. “The Italy – Libya connection represents one of the historic services for our company, which has maintained its presence even during the most difficult times experienced by this country, which has always been very close to Italy in terms of commercial exchanges,” says the Messina Group. “In light of the recent resumption of regular commercial flows to Libya, the Messina Company has decided to enhance the service by employing a dedicated naval unit on the direct connection between the Italian ports of Salerno (Sct) – La Spezia (Terminal del Golfo) and Genoa (Imt) with the Libyan ports of Tripoli, Misurata and Benghazi”. In addition, the company specifies that “the service has a fortnightly frequency for Tripoli and Misurata, and a monthly frequency for Benghazi”.
The line was launched at the end of September with the ship Pacific Dalian, which has a nominal capacity of 698 TEU (439 TEU at 14 tonnes), is equipped with 120 plugs for reefer containers, and on which it is possible to easily load out-of-gauge / overweight cargo thanks to the use of special high-capacity high cube flat rack containers.
Furthermore, Messina & C. regularly calls at the Libyan port of Misurata also with the ships employed on its Ipak – Red Sea line service entering the Mediterranean with a fortnightly frequency.
