Aegina: 9-year-old injured in the leg while boarding a ship – The captain was arrested

Aegina: A 9-year-old was injured in the leg while boarding a ship on Saturday afternoon, when the ramp moved suddenly due to a swell.

During the midday hours yesterday, a 9-year-old foreign national (citizen of Israel) was injured in his left leg during the process of boarding a passenger car carrier (/C) ship in the port of Aegina. The injury was caused by the ship’s ramp which moved due to a sudden swell.

First aid was immediately provided to the 9-year-old by members of the Hellenic Coast Guard-Hellenic Coast Guard Special Operations Unit and members of the ship’s crew. The 9-year-old was initially transported by an EKAB ambulance to the Aegina Health Center.

Subsequently, he was transferred by a Hellenic Coast Guard-Hellenic Coast Guard Special Operations Unit Patrol Vessel (PL.S.) to the port of Piraeus, from where he was transported by an EKAB ambulance to the “PANAGIOTIS AND AGLAIA KYRIAKOU” General Children’s Hospital of Athens.

By the Aegina Port Authority, which is conducting the preliminary investigation, the 36-year-old captain of the P/C – C/C ship was arrested for violation of Article 314 par. 1 & 2 of the Penal Code (bodily harm due to negligence).
