Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality, after the Ayvalık services launched under the name Balıkesir Deniz Otobüsleri AŞ (BADO), is preparing to start Akçay services as the second phase. Within the scope of the Akçay-Mytilene services planned to be completed for the 2026 summer season, Akçay Pier, which was first declared a permanent maritime border gate in 1954 and currently maintains its active status in the records of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and the Ministry of Trade, has been transferred to Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.
The construction process has begun
The location and coordinates of the customs building, which will serve the international maritime passenger transport to be conducted from Akçay Pier, to be operated by Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality subsidiary Balıkesir Toplu Taşıma AŞ, were finalized following technical and administrative evaluations conducted with the Ministry of Trade and other relevant stakeholder institutions. The customs building was designed for the area behind the coastal facility where the customs service area will be located, after obtaining the necessary permits from the relevant units, and the construction permit was obtained, starting the construction process as of November 24.
The process is being completed as soon as possible
Furthermore, within the scope of the administrative structuring for conducting customs activities, Passport Police and Customs Guard personnel have been assigned, and the operating license process with the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, as well as the necessary ISPS (International Ship and Port Facility Security Code) compliance and permission processes for maritime security, are continuing simultaneously. The process for the Akçay-Mytilene sea transport service will be completed as soon as possible and made available for citizens’ use.
BADO services, which aim to promote Balıkesir nationally and internationally by developing fast and comfortable maritime transport services in the Edremit Gulf, will contribute to regional tourism.
