Algeciras appoints five new pilots and the workforce rises to 23 members

Javier Palomar Sánchez, Sabrina Vázquez López, Álvaro Jesús Pérez Huelin, Jorge Irijoa Chans, and José Luis Benítez Martínez are the new pilots of the port of Algeciras. The president and the general director of the Port Authority of Algeciras (APBA), Gerardo Landaluce and José Luis Hormaechea, have recently presented the official appointments to the captains who have joined the Corporation of Pilots of the port of Algeciras.

After passing the corresponding selection test and the mandatory training period under the supervision of a mentor pilot and in all types of environmental conditions and vessel typologies, the General Directorate of Merchant Marine has certified them for pilotage service. With these additions, the Corporation increases from 18 to 23 active members, while shortly the captain with whom the Corporation will reach 24 members will begin his regulated training period.

The Corporation of Pilots of the port of Algeciras, the most active in the country, operates five boats to handle an average of 70 daily maneuvers, including the arrival and departure of 200 megaships annually.
