DNV has launched the first public tender portal for e-methanol procurement across the EU and UK. The platform connects producers and buyers, helping industries secure reliable supplies of low-carbon fuel as Europe moves toward cleaner energy.

DNV has introduced the first public tender portal for e-methanol procurement in the European Union and the United Kingdom, marking a new step in supporting cleaner fuel adoption for shipping, aviation, and heavy industry.

The initiative connects an e-methanol producer with industrial buyers to secure long-term supply agreements for renewable fuel made from captured carbon and renewable hydrogen. As global demand for low-carbon energy rises, the platform aims to make e-methanol more accessible to companies working to meet climate and regulatory goals.

“The technology for e-methanol exists, but the market mechanisms to scale it are still forming,” said Santiago Blanco, Vice-President and Regional Director at DNV. “By launching this tender, we are applying our neutral expertise to de-risk the procurement process for both producers and offtakers. This is about turning ambition into actionable supply agreements and accelerating the fuel transition in Europe.”

E-methanol is considered one of the most practical and scalable alternatives to conventional fossil fuels. It supports compliance with major European frameworks such as RED III, Fit for 55, FuelEU Maritime, and the EU Emissions Trading System, and contributes to the International Maritime Organization’s decarbonization goals.

The tender is structured in two stages. The first phase is a non-binding qualification round to identify serious potential offtakers. This is followed by direct negotiations between shortlisted buyers and the producer. According to DNV, the process is designed to create transparency and confidence for both sides, ensuring reliable and verifiable supply agreements.

With several European countries such as Germany, Spain, and France already setting higher blending mandates for renewable fuels, e-methanol is gaining attention as a key component of national decarbonization strategies. Production covered by this tender is expected to begin in the second half of 2028, with certified volumes available for delivery across the EU and UK.

By establishing this platform, DNV aims to help bridge the gap between ambition and implementation, offering a practical way for industries to secure sustainable fuel and support Europe’s transition toward cleaner energy.
