The Cyprus-flagged vessel is the first in a series of eight state-of-the-art and environmentally friendly Kamsarmax ships being built at the Chinese shipyards NACKS and DACKS. As noted, upon completion of the series, the company will possess one of the largest, youngest, and most technologically advanced Kamsarmax fleets worldwide.
According to the company, the name “Gallia Graeca II” links the newbuilding with a deep historical heritage. From the 8th century BC, Greeks founded colonies in Europe, Asia, and Africa, while particularly in Massalia – the ancient colony of the Phocaeans – the Greek influence was so intense that parts of Gaul were called Gallia Graeca. The new ship thus becomes a symbol of the uninterrupted Greek-French maritime connection from antiquity to the present day.
The naming ceremony was performed by Fr. Ieremia Cho, while the godmother was Yale University professor, Pauline Le Ven of Yale University. In attendance were Capt. Stefanos E. Angelakos, Evangelos Il. Angelakos with his wife Katigo and their granddaughter Katerina Psyrri, as well as the company’s General & Technical Manager Kostas Chrysostomidis, accompanied by his wife Katerina. By their side was the experienced team of shipbuilders, engineers, and seafarers, led by Project Manager Panagiotis Makris, as well as the ship’s captain and crew.
The event was also honored by representatives of the shipyard, partners of Angelakos (Hellas) S.A., Sau Weng Tang, President of Lloyd’s Register China, and Dr. Vasilis Trigkas of Tsinghua University.
Angelakos (Hellas) S.A. warmly welcomes the “Gallia Graeca II” and wishes the ship and its crew safe voyages and fair seas.
Meanwhile, as part of its development strategy and close relationship with its crews, the company held the Annual Seafarers Forum 2025 in Manila, from October 12 to 14. With the theme “Charting the Future: Where Tradition Fuels Growth,” the forum highlighted how the company’s shipping culture and values guide its future evolution.
Over 160 people participated, and two key pillars were presented: the Cadetship Programme with LPU Batangas, which prepares the new generation of seafarers, and the ambitious program to build the 8 new generation Kamsarmax vessels.
More than 25 specialized workshops covered topics of safety, technical operations, regulatory compliance, cybersecurity, and crew welfare.
Management had the opportunity to meet with the seafarers, strengthening dialogue and operational improvement.
