The Multipurpose North Terminal of the Port of Callao, operated by APM Terminals, has set a new milestone so far in 2025 by recording the landing of 112 thousand tons of breakbulk cargo in week 39 of the year.
This was destined for strategic sectors such as construction, metalworking, agroindustry, automotive, mining, chemical, and cement.
Carlos Arias, CEO of APM Terminals Callao, highlighted that “this is one of the biggest milestones in the arrival of what we call breakbulk cargo (diverse), consolidating the Port of Callao as the most important maritime terminal in the country and on the South American west coast, articulating important sectors of the national industry.”
Some examples of breakbulk cargo that arrived are coils, iron sheets, trucks, wood, plastic, beams, raw material for cement, among others. Of what has arrived in Peru so far this year, construction materials (20%) and vehicles (25%) stand out.
“While handling all types of cargo needed by the national economy, APM Terminals Callao continues to make investments committed to the Peruvian State to strengthen the strategic position that the Port of Callao has in the country and on the west coast of South America,” emphasized the concessionaire of the Callao port facility.
“The company has begun work on the modernization of Stage 3B, which will allow for larger and deeper-draft docks to receive the large vessels of today’s and tomorrow’s international trade,” he concluded.
