APM Terminals MedPort Tangier in Morocco has welcomed the second batch of three of the world’s biggest dual-trolley ship-to-shore (STS) cranes.
The terminal operating arm of Maersk, which released a video of the key milestone on social media, brought its total number of cranes to six on the scheduled date of April 16, 2018, for the Tanger Med 2 (TM2) port complex project.
AMPT received the first batch of the 12 STS cranes on February 23, 2018.
The cranes, which are being manufactured by ZPMC in Shanghai, are designed to handle vessels carrying 22,000 or more containers and will form the world’s largest double trolley STS crane system.

They weigh 2500 metric tons, are 144 metres high when the boom is up, and have an outreach of 72 metres with /tandem lift capability.
Located in one of the most important transshipment locations in the world, APM Terminals’ TM2 will play a crucial role in its hub network by moving five million TEU after its completion in 2019.
Once built, the terminal will feature some of the most technologically advanced equipment in the world.
