APS and AG-FIPS inaugurate walkway that increases safety for workers and tourists

Greater safety for pedestrian access to cargo and cruise terminals and an increase in the operational efficiency of the railways serving the maritime terminals of the Port of Santos, allowing for higher speeds, is what is being celebrated following the inauguration of a footbridge by the Santos Port Authority (APS) and the Internal Railway Management Association of the Port of Santos (AG-FIPS).

The “Paseo de Santa” passes over Avenida Eng. Sérgio da Costa Matte, is 426 meters long, with a central span of 80 and approximately 115 meters in each of the three ramps. It is composed of 52 tons of metallic structure, approximately 77.5 tons of steel, and almost 620 cubic meters of concrete. The investment amounts to approximately USD 3.7 million, contributed by AG-FIPS, as the railway concessionaire.

According to Anderson Pomini, president of APS, the project dignifies those who cross and represents unity. “This footbridge is a symbol of an initiative that connects the port with the city, a show of the joint work between the municipality, the port, and the community,” he stated.

The delivery represents a new connection between the city of Santos and the port area. The delivery ceremony took place in the square where the pilgrimage site is located. This will benefit thousands of tourists visiting the cruise terminal, countless workers from the port terminals in the region, and public transport users, who will be able to cross the street more safely to access bus stops in both directions.

This is the fourth elevated walkway that will be delivered by the Port of Santos in the recent period, another result of the transfer of the internal railway and the policy of integration and promotion of the Port-City relationship.

João Almeida, executive director of AG-FIPS, was pleased with the completion of the footbridge. “It bothered me to see tourists having to carry their luggage to cross the tracks,” he stated, adding that another pedestrian footbridge is expected to be completed next month, in the area of the Municipal Market.

Representing the mayor of Santos, Rogério Santos, the municipal secretary of Port Affairs and Employment, Bruno Orlandi, also highlighted the delivery of footbridges and other works that directly benefit the city’s inhabitants. “It is a large portfolio of investments that promotes the port-city relationship, an excellent partnership between the City Council, APS, and AG-FIPS,” he commented.

Javier Carnevale, Operations Manager of the Concais Terminal, highlighted the port management’s dedication to people. “It demonstrates how the Port of Santos works with details that make a difference, like the safety of tourists who begin their dream journey on this footbridge,” he said.
