PortosRio participated, on the 15th, in the II Maritime Accessibility Forum of Sepetiba Bay, held at the Hotel Mont Blanc Resort, in Itacuruçá, Mangaratiba. Promoted by the Union of Port Operators of the Port of Itaguaí (Sindopita), the event brought together authorities and representatives from the port sector to discuss projects and challenges of the region and marked the celebration of the union’s 25th anniversary.

During the meeting, the CEO of PortosRio, Flavio Vieira, announced the execution of the emergency dredging of the access channel to the Port of Itaguaí still in 2025, an action that aims to reestablish navigability conditions and eliminate the restrictions imposed on the operation of large vessels.

“The pilotage identified siltation points that compromised navigation safety, forcing ships to operate only at high tide. Given this, we decided to act immediately and carry out the dredging of the critical points. This action will restore full navigability and ensure that operations occur throughout the entire day,” explained the president.

Flavio Vieira emphasized that the emergency dredging is an immediate measure within the company’s investment plan for the Port of Itaguaí, which includes the execution of the complete channel dredging. According to him, one of the goals of the current management is to consolidate investments in infrastructure and technology in the port, considered one of the main growth vectors of the company and one of the most promising in the country.

The Waterway Access Manager of the Port of Itaguaí, Julia Crisóstomo, presented an overview of the actions developed since the last edition of the forum in 2013, highlighting the achievements of the period, the planned dredging works, the progress of the VTMIS (Vessel Traffic Management and Information System) project and the update of the Port Exploitation Regulation (REP).

The Engineering Superintendent of PortosRio, Fagner Dias, detailed the progress in the works and the implementation of VTMIS, an essential system for increasing the efficiency and safety of navigation in Sepetiba Bay.

The forum reinforced the importance of integration among the various actors of the port community and the joint commitment to the infrastructure and sustainable development of the region. The meeting was also an opportunity for the exchange of experiences and the discussion of strategic projects focused on the efficiency and modernization of the sector.

In addition to PortosRio, representatives from the leased terminals of the Port of Itaguaí – Sepetiba Tecon, CPBS (Vale), Tecar (CSN) and Cedro, the Brazilian Navy, the Ministry of Ports and Airports, the Pilotage, the Federal Revenue, the Federal Police, Porto Sudeste and the Ternium terminal, which also use the waterway access managed by PortosRio, participated.
