A message of collaboration with the full range of stakeholders for the future of the shipping industry was broadcast from Limassol, where Maritime Cyprus is taking place, by the IMO Secretary-General, Arsenio Dominguez.

In his address, after focusing on the need for the sector to improve seafarer welfare, while also enhancing their safety, the IMO Secretary-General referred to the critical challenge of decarbonization.

It is recalled that next week in London, the critical IMO meeting for the adoption of the Net Zero Framework will take place, the framework which appears to have divided the shipping community. “I recognize the concerns. There are strong views on the table. […] We will only improve by exchanging views and listening to everyone’s opinions,” Mr. Dominguez pointed out and concluded by saying that “we are all working for the benefit of the sector”.
