Barcelona – Axpo has successfully completed the first ship-to-ship Bio-LNG bunkering operation in Spain, marking a significant milestone for the low-emission maritime transport sector. The operation took place in the Port of Algeciras, where over 4,000 cubic meters of ISCC-certified Bio-LNG were transferred to the container ship CMA CGM Fort Bourbon. This operation reinforces Axpo’s strategy in the LNG bunkering sector, already underway in key ports such as Málaga, Algeciras, and Sines.
The Bio-LNG used comes from the virtual liquefaction process at Enagás’s regasification plant in Cartagena, which since July 2025 provides ISCC (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification) certified services, ensuring compliance with strict environmental, social, and traceability standards. Daniele Corti, Head of Axpo’s Small Scale LNG division, stated: “We are committed to expanding our Bio-LNG portfolio to meet the growing demand for cleaner marine fuels and help our customers achieve their ambitious emission reduction targets.
