The port of Barcelona acts as a facilitator for two of the projects that have been accepted for funding in the new call for commercial-phase projects of the Ports 4.0 program. These are the projects PortSurveyor AI Làmina Aigua, by the technology company CTRL4 Enviro and Gemed Soluciones, and Smart Terminal, a SaaS platform for the management of Ro-Ro and multi-purpose port terminals by Geomodel 3D Modelling Studio. The first one, the PortSurveyor AI Làmina Aigua project, aims to develop a visual vessel tracking system within the port, from the entrance to the berthing or mooring point.

For its part, the Smart Terminal project aims to develop a solution that integrates two key concepts: automation and providing intelligence to surveillance systems in terminals and port areas, and the creation of devices capable of reading identifiers of unregistered cargo, such as new cars, whether they are moving or parked. Apart from these two projects, Barcelona also acts as a facilitator for two more projects: Amelia, a comprehensive software to assist port management using drones, and Straight, an autonomous underwater inspection system by Acosta Ingeniería Marítima.

A total of 67 projects were submitted to the call, of which 66 were approved and subsequently these 16 were chosen to be awarded this financial aid. During the Committee, it was also approved to endow Ports 4.0 with a new budget allocation of 18 million euros that will allow three new calls: ideas and commercial projects before the end of 2025, and pre-commercial projects in 2026.
