Gujarat’sBedi
Portin Jamnagar has become the second port in the Saurashtra region
to have direct port connectivity with Railway lines.
Officials in the know had said that first
loading of imported coal was conducted on Wednesday 13 July from the newly
opened Bedi Port Terminal.
This railway line will provide direct
rail connectivity from the Gulf of Kutch to rest of the country.

A
consignment of imported coal was the first to be loaded and ferried from the
port using the new rail link. It is bound forGujarat Electricity Board
Siding – Sikka.
The port
facilitates an annual import of 14.6 lakh tonne and export of 12.20 lakh tonne.
It caters to coal, clinker, fertiliser, limestone, met coke, pet coke among
others.
Port
connectivity by rail has been a priority project for the centre.
In all there are 93 port connectivity
projects worth Rs 77,224 crores being taken by theShipping Ministrywith the Indian Railways. These
are under the Sagarmala programme and out of these, 33 worth Rs 9,610 crores
were completed by May this year. Another 60 are in various stages of completion.
