The governors of Arica, Diego Paco, and of the Brazilian state of Rondônia, Marcos Rocha, signed a sister-city agreement within the framework of the Nodo Bioceánico 2025 event taking place in the city of Arica.
The meeting brings together authorities from Chile, Bolivia, Peru, and Brazil, with the objective of debating and reaching agreements to materialize a commercial route that facilitates the transit of cargo between these countries and the Asia-Pacific.
In the specific case of the agreement between the Chilean region and the Brazilian state, the purpose is to establish a joint roadmap to promote infrastructure, trade, mobility, and development among the four countries, projecting Arica and Parinacota as a strategic point of the bioceanic heart.
In this regard, Governor Rocha stated that “for me it is a great honor to sign this sister-city agreement with Arica, a Chilean region that has been growing a lot and has a great port. I have no doubt that this act is the beginning of the development of our areas and our regions.”
“We have this wonderful port, the Port of Arica, and I am sure that many products from Rondônia will pass through here and many products from Chile will also reach the state of Rondônia,” he added.
For his part, Diego Paco highlighted that the agreement and also the development of the Nodo Bioceánico event is the result of a series of meetings with different actors from the Andean-Amazon region.
“This is the result of a great effort of many meetings, many work teams and many kilometers traveled with the aim of seeking opportunities, not only for Arica and Parinacota, but also for Rondônia,” said Diego Paco.
“Through this sister-city agreement, which is the first time as a Region, and with the authorities of Rondônia we managed to materialize a document to link ourselves, create more developments, in addition to opportunities and challenges for all the people who believe in governance and that things can be done well,” he added.
