Recently, after completing the mission of the Science and Technology Basic Resources Survey Special Project “Comprehensive Survey of Key Fishery Ecosystems in the Northwest Pacific,” the marine fishery comprehensive scientific survey vessel “Lanhai 101” of the Yellow Sea Fisheries Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences, returned to Qingdao.

This survey marks the second consecutive year that “Lanhai 101” has conducted comprehensive ecosystem surveys of key fishing grounds in the Northwest Pacific. This voyage completed comprehensive surveys of key economic fish species resources and fishery ecological environment factors at a total of 72 stations under the Science and Technology Basic Resources Survey Special Project, obtaining rich and systematic first-hand scientific data and sample materials. Relevant samples will be transferred to the National Marine Fishery Biological Germplasm Resources Repository for preservation.

The National Marine Fishery Biological Germplasm Resources Repository is currently the largest fishery germplasm preservation platform in China. Collecting pelagic samples through survey voyages has become a normalized working mechanism. The two-year Northwest Pacific survey voyages have collected a large number of precious pelagic fishery biological samples, which will greatly enrich the number of preserved samples in the repository and effectively expand the coverage range of repository samples. The subsequent research and development team will conduct in-depth research from multiple dimensions such as genes, cells, and specimens, fully tapping into the scientific value of the samples, providing stronger scientific and technological support for the sustainable utilization of China’s marine biological resources and the high-quality development of pelagic fisheries.
