The expert shipowner from Carrara, Enrico Bogazzi, at the age of 86, does not intend to retire from entrepreneurial life (although he apparently states the contrary), as demonstrated by the latest investments completed to enter transport activities serving maritime works such as the new breakwater in Genoa. According to what SHIPPING ITALY has learned, in fact, the general cargo ship Guang Rong, which in February 2025 ran aground along the coast of Marina di Massa, after being ‘rescued’ and towed to the port of Livorno, now appears to have been acquired by the company San Colombano Bulk Srl. The latter, established at the end of 2025, is equally controlled by the company San Colombano Costruzioni (a company that also holds a minority stake in the Mdc Terminal of Marina di Carrara, controlled by Dario Perioli of the Grendi Group) and by Co.Fi.Pa. Srl, which is owned by Enrico Bogazzi and his family.

“It is only a small operation completed but not particularly significant because the ship will not be put back into service, but rather destined for demolition,” Bogazzi confirmed to SHIPPING ITALY. The purchase price is reportedly between 110 and 200 thousand euros, while the costs necessary to repair the ship would have exceeded 3 million euros. The Guang Rong, until the accident that occurred at the end of January 2025, was owned by the company Sea Commander Srl of Chioggia and after the shipwreck was declared a total loss to the insurers. Built in China in 2001, it has a gross tonnage of 10,000 tons and until the day of its grounding was used for the transport of stone material from the Carrara quarries to the construction site of the new breakwater in Genoa.

Having said that the Guang Rong will not return to service, the other interesting new development announced by Bogazzi is instead the purchase, again through San Colombano Bulk Srl, and the conversion “of another bulk carrier ship that has been entrusted to a shipyard in Turkey and will be delivered to us between July 15 and 20. It is undergoing work to turn it into a split hopper work unit with a Dp1 dynamic positioning system and a crane with a 200-ton capacity.” It will enter service at the construction site for the realization of the new maritime work to defend the port of Genoa, joining the ships of Nova Marine Carriers and the other work vessels (over 60) employed by the Pergenova Breakwater consortium.

Confirming the activism that has always distinguished Enrico Bogazzi, the shipowner from Carrara has also moved in the market in recent years with some purchase operations concerning Supramax class bulk carrier ships.
