39 new tugboats enter and strengthened presence in the Asia-Pacific region
Barcelona – The Spanish group Boluda Towage continues its global expansion with the acquisition of Royal Boskalis’s towage and salvage activities in Australia and Papua New Guinea, for a total value of 640 million dollars.
The operation, which includes 39 modern and versatile tugboats, consolidates Boluda as the world’s largest operator in the port towage sector. The new division, with its regional headquarters in Sydney, operates in nine strategic ports, including Weipa, Townsville, Mackay, Gladstone, Brisbane, Newcastle, Botany, Melbourne and Papua New Guinea.
The acquisition also strengthens Boluda’s presence in the Asia-Pacific area, where the company is already active in Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and East Timor, thus expanding the group’s global network to over 230 ports on five continents.
With this operation, the Boluda fleet exceeds 850 units and the global workforce reaches approximately 10,000 employees, of which over 8,000 are seafarers.
According to Vicente Boluda Ceballos, president of Boluda Towage, the acquisition makes it possible to improve service and operational efficiency for the benefit of customers and to further consolidate the company’s position as a global leader in port towage. He also emphasized that the group’s strategy aims to support the development of port infrastructure through greater efficiency, safety and operational sustainability.
