Boskalis, a global provider of maritime infrastructure services, has been awarded two infrastructure projects in the Netherlands, including for the construction of an inland port.

The new harbour will be built in Spijk, the Netherlands, on behalf of Rijswaterstaat, on the river Waal close to the German border.

It will be built to receive inland vessels and will increase the capacity, safety and accessibility, and will involve three million cubic metres of soil will be moved by using a small cutter suction dredger and other earthmoving equipment.

Work will begin in early 2021 and take approximately 2 and half years and cost approximately €75 million. Boskalis expects to cut CO2 emissions by more than 50% by using a sustainable biofuel.

Boskalis will furthermore redesign the N241 provincial road in the North of the Netherlands. This contract was awarded by the Province of Noord-Holland and PWN and includes the widening of the road and additional road safety related improvements.

The structure of this project includes a planning development phase and a realization phase with an expected completion date late 2024.
