UK-headquartered energy giant BP and the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) have signed on the dotted line to strengthen their energy bonds.
BP has signed two new memoranda of understanding (MOUs) in Azerbaijan. The first one was inked with the country’s Ministry of Economy on the high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure, and the second with SOCAR to further bolster the two oil and gas players’ long-standing energy partnership.
Meg O’Neill, Chief Executive Officer at BP, commented: “I’m just back from two productive days in Azerbaijan– a country where BP has deep roots and a long-term commitment. This was my first visit to Azerbaijan, and I was impressed – from the deep history to the amazing architecture and impressive infrastructure of the country.
“We were honoured to meet President Aliyev, Prime Minister Asadov, and Ministers Jabbarov and Shahbazov. Our conversations covered the breadth of our partnership – from oil and gas development to solar energy and electrification.”
Among the people O’Neill met are Mikayil Jabbarov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Economy, and Rovshan Najaf, SOCAR’s President, during her trip to Azerbaijan, where BP’s CEO visited the Sangachal terminal, which she describes as one of the world’s largest oil and gas complexes and a critical hub connecting Caspian energy to global markets.
While confirming the visit, Jabbarov elaborated that the participants exchanged views on the UK-headquartered giant’s global business operations, its long-term fruitful cooperation with Azerbaijan, and the energy projects being implemented in the region.
The minister emphasized: “The MoU between SOCAR and BP will expand energy cooperation between the parties and further reinforce Azerbaijan’s position as a global energy hub.”
