Portonave, the first private container port terminal in Brazil, celebrates the milestone of 15 million TEU handled since the start of its operations in 2007, being the first and only port in Santa Catarina to reach this figure.
This achievement occurred during the operation of the vessel Santa Catarina Express, from the shipping company Hapag-Lloyd, with 3,500 movements performed (1,555 loads and 2,031 discharges) via the Ipanema line (Asia).
Last year, 1.1 million TEU were moved, with an average of 114 movements per hour (MPH), the highest among Brazilian ports, according to the National Agency for Waterway Transportation (ANTAQ). In the first four months of this year, 436,000 TEU were moved, representing a 17% increase compared to the same period of the previous year.
The port terminal is modernizing its dock and operates with 450 meters of berth, while the other half remains under construction, with completion expected for the second half of this year. Additionally, this year the company will receive new equipment for container handling.
These investments will allow the operation of vessels up to 400 meters in length, with a draft of up to 17 meters, and will increase the annual capacity to 2 million TEU.
