The Greek shipowner Harry Vafias brings the group’s handysize fleet to 12, with an investment of almost 53 million dollars. It is now the most numerous segment of the company
Athens – The Greek company Brave Maritime, controlled by the shipowner Harry Vafias, has expanded its fleet with the purchase of three handysize bulk carriers built in Japan, acquired from the Dubai-based Mur Shipping group.
According to market sources, the units – all of 34,000 deadweight tonnes and built by the Namura shipyards – are the African Heron, African Goshawk and African Merli. The package was sold as a whole for just under 53 million dollars, according to several brokerage agencies.
With this operation, Brave Maritime’s handysize fleet rises to 12 ships, becoming the largest segment of the Athenian shipowner, who also has a cape division consisting of seven units.
Vafias, known for his preference for Japanese-built ships, confirms his position as one of the most active buyers in the second-hand market in 2025, continuing the expansion strategy aimed at diversifying the Greek-flagged bulk carrier fleet.
