The Federal Port Authority of Bahía (Codeba) highlighted the boost that the Port of Salvador will receive with the start of operations of the BYD assembly plant, which will generate an increase in port movement of approximately two thousand containers per month.

“The Port of Salvador is ready to manage all the project and containerized cargo for BYD’s production supplies. The port community estimates an increase of up to two thousand containers per month until the factory is fully operational. This is extremely significant for Bahía,” emphasized the president of Codeba, Antonio Gobbo.

The already announced investment of R$1,000 million in the expansion of Tecom Salvador, with resources from the Merchant Marine Fund, will double Tecom’s current capacity to more than twenty thousand containers.

With an investment of R$5,500 million, the Camaçari complex will house BYD’s first factory in Latin America. Codeba will play a fundamental role in the importation of parts and the exportation of electric vehicles to the regional market. The equipment and components for the vehicles come from China and pass through the port.

“The Bahía-China route is crucial due to the prospects for Bahía’s economic growth. But at the same time, with the materialization of this economic growth, as we see today here at the factory inauguration, Codeba consolidates the direct integration of Bahía with the Asian continent and the entire world,” stated the commercial director of Codeba, Demétrius Moura.
