The Brazilian National Waterway Transport Agency (ANTAQ) has signed a cooperation agreement with The Netherlands to develop green ports.

The project is a public-private partnership, with a term of three years, between the countries and aims to support Dutch companies to export and invest in Brazil, in addition to supporting Brazilian companies with investments and exports to the Netherlands.

The agreement will jointly expand bilateral cooperation and assist in the exchange of knowledge to promote public and private initiatives within the scope of port development, port logistics and green hydrogen production, among others.

ANTAQ’s General Director, Eduardo Nery, highlighted the agency’s work and the investments made that allow port and waterway infrastructure to be adapted to the sector’s needs.

“For this infrastructure to remain modern, efficient, and meeting this growing movement, more investment is needed. This year, we have a challenging portfolio of port terminal auction projects,” highlighted Nery.

“We are going to launch a joint team to first identify existing bottlenecks and then propose infrastructure work or regulatory work measures to attack each of these bottlenecks.”

Last month, Porto Itapoá obtained fourth place in the ANTAQ’s rankings, making it Brazil’s private container terminal with the biggest increase in 2023 compared to 2022.
