Brazilian ports break record with 1.04 billion tons moved

Breaking another record, Brazilian ports handled 1.04 billion tons of cargo in the cumulative period from January to September. This represents a 3.25% increase compared to the same period last year.

According to data from the Estatístico Aquaviário of the Agência Nacional de Transportes Aquaviários (ANTAQ), 120.4 million tons were handled in September (+4.84%). This number was also the highest for the month in the historical series.

Throughout the month of September, records were also set in long-haul navigation, cabotagem, and inland navigation. The first was responsible for handling 87.7 million tons of cargo, an increase of 3.35%; cabotagem handling reached 25.1 million tons, a growth of 1.28%; and inland navigation handled 7.5 million tons, a high of 50%.

Cargas e mercadoria

Other records occurred in the handling of solid and liquid bulk, and in containerized cargo. 72.8 million tons of solid bulk were handled in the ninth month of the year, a growth of 4.72%, while liquid bulk handled 28.3 million, an increase of 6.49%.

Containerized cargo reached a handling of 14.1 million, a high of 7.12%, this represents 1.3 million TEUs – of this total, 0.9 million tons were handled in long-haul and 0.4 million by cabotagem. Finally, general cargo handled 5.2 million tons (-6.85%).

Throughout the month of September, the cargoes with the highest handling were: Iron Ore, with a handling of 36.6 million tons and growth of 1.92%; Oil and Derivatives (Crude Oil) which reached a handling of 18.8 million and a high of 8.85%; and Corn which handled 10.1 million and advanced 12.89%.

Portos Públicos

Public ports handled 43.8 million tons of cargo in September 2025. The number represents an increase of 3.26% compared to the same period the previous year.

Among the 20 public ports that handle the most in the country, the one with the highest percentage growth in the ninth month of the year was the Porto de Santana (AP). The increase was 40.12%, compared to September 2024, and handling reached 0.4 million tons.

Terminais Privados

In authorized terminals there was a growth of 5.77% in handling compared to September of last year. The sector handled 76.6 million tons of cargo.

Among the 20 TUPs that handled the most in September, the one with the highest growth in handling, compared to the same month last year, is the Terminal Marítimo Ponta Ubu (ES) with a high of 121.1%. The terminal handled 1.2 million tons of cargo.
