BW LNG has completed a sub-cooler retrofit on the 173,400-cbm LNG carrier BW Pavilion Aranda, built in 2019, as part of its fleet-efficiency program.
The company said the installation “will reduce the vessel’s natural boil-off rate, improving her environmental performance and enhancing trading flexibility — to the benefit of our charterer Shell.”
The retrofit marks the completion of BW LNG’s three-ship modification campaign that also includes BW Pavilion Vanda and BW Pavilion Leeara.
The work was carried out at Yiu Lian Shipyard in Shenzhen, China, using sub-coolers supplied by Air Liquide, with Hanwha Power Systems and Hyundai Marine Solutions providing EPC support.
According to BW LNG, the equipment is designed to reduce boil-off by about 2.1 tonnes of LNG per hour, lowering fuel consumption and emissions while improving operational flexibility.
BW Pavilion Aranda was delivered in 2019 by Hanwha Ocean, then known as DSME, to BW LNG and Pavilion Energy. Pavilion Energy was acquired by Shell on April 1, 2025, bringing the vessel’s charter under Shell’s expanded LNG portfolio.
BW LNG is a liquefied natural gas shipping and floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) operator headquartered in Singapore. It is a subsidiary of BW Group Limited, a privately held maritime group incorporated in Bermuda.
